WASH YOUR HAIR LESS WITH THESE TIPS!
Do you want to learn how to wash your hair less? Maybe you have a friend who always brags about how they only wash their hair once per week, and somehow it always looks amazing – or maybe you’re just looking to free up some extra time in your beauty routine!
There are so many other benefits to washing your hair less than simply earning “bragging rights” and a little bit more time. And the best part? It’s way easier than you think!
In this post, I’m going to tell you why you should wash your hair less and my best tips for training your hair to be less greasy.
THE Benefits of Washing Your Hair Less--
Here are my favorite benefits of washing your hair less:
1. Sustainability
Washing your hair every day means that you’re using considerably more water. Not only can this increase your water bill, but it uses up the most precious natural resource we have! Washing your hair less is a decision that’s great for you, your wallet, and the environment.
2. Hair color/tone
Color will fade out of your hair very quickly if you wash your hair every day. And to all my blondies out there: washing your hair daily will remove your toner and can make your hair turn brassy faster! This is especially true for anyone with hard water (if you live in Arizona, you know exactly what I’m talking about!)
3. Moisture
Even if you use a moisture-rich shampoo and conditioner, you’re removing glorious natural oils from your hair every time you wash it – and it’s even worse if you have hard water! Giving your hair a break for a few days will allow those natural oils to nourish your scalp and strands.
Going Longer Between Hair Washes--
Here’s how you can go longer between hair washes so you can reap the benefits listed above!
1. Trust the process
I completely understand that you’re worried about having greasy hair, but it’s so important to trust the process! The less you wash your hair, the less your hair will produce oil. Your scalp will realize that it doesn’t need to produce so much oil because you aren’t always scrubbing it away!
2. Brush with a boar bristle brush
Use a boar bristle brush every day. The natural bristles are easy on your scalp and hair, and they will help even distribute oil throughout your strands. Your hair will look and feel less greasy because the oil isn’t concentrated on your scalp.
3. Double cleanse on wash days
When you do wash your hair, use professional products that are free of parabens, sulfates, artificial fragrances, and synthetic colors. Wash your hair once to loosen up the oils, and again to (gently) scrub your scalp clean.
4. Use dry shampoo in between washes
There are so many amazing dry shampoos out there that really work and smell amazing! Use dry shampoo when you feel like you’re ready to wash your hair, but know that you can go another day or two. Try to only use dry shampoo when you’re feeling on the brink of desperate, so you can train your hair to soak up the oils instead of the product.
